Fiona Wagner has an almost insatiable curiosity. She also has a natural way with words and a knack for asking the right questions. Recognizing that writing was the best way to channel these irrepressible traits, she launched her freelance career. That was seven years ago, and she hasn't looked back since.

Today, Fiona and her family live on a 71-acre farm outside a small village in Hastings County, Ontario, where she writes about her family's efforts to live a simpler, more sustainable life.

When she's not writing, Fiona can be found chasing after her two young children, working in her organic vegetable garden, learning how to raise chickens and goats and counting zillions of stars.

Writers on writing

"A scrupulous writer, in every sentence that he writes, will ask himself at least four questions, thus: 1. What am I trying to say? 2. What words will express it? 3. What image or idiom will make it clearer? 4. Is this image fresh enough to have an effect? "
